En Plein Air Workshop for Oil & Acrylic Painters or Pastel
Four full days of painting on Orr’s Island, ME

Sunday, June 25 to Thursday, June 29, 2017 with Jill Pottle www.pottleart.com

This is an exciting full 4 days of painting on location on Orr’s Island where there is the rich light and colors of Coastal Maine. Each day we will pick a location, set up and paint. The first day I will do a demo for about an hour and a half to get students going. Then the students will dive into their own work for the rest of the time. We will visit at least three locations which includes open ocean, beach area, docks and boats and a rocky shore line. Students will learn how to simplify forms, develop overlapping areas of trees and rock to create depth, color relationships in the water and sky and land and address other compositional issues. We will learn how to get going quickly with the set up and how to capture the scenery fast with big shapes and ideas. It’s exciting to paint fast and loose and try to capture a moment in time in nature.

We will work on location in different areas on Orr’s Island. In bad weather we will work inside or on the porch of “Crow’s Nest” lodging. I will do group critiques the second and fourth day and we will all look at historical references at the end of each workday. Students will work hard all day and relax and enjoy a home-cooked dinner Sunday and Wednesday nights, and dinner at nearby restaurants on Monday and Tuesday nights.

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP ON ORR’S ISLAND, MAINE

Sunday, July 9th (4pm) to Thursday, July 13th (4pm), 2017 with MARJORIE GLICK www.marjorieglick.com

Enjoy a watercolor workshop in a relaxing setting at the old family summer home of Margaret Arndt known as Crow’s Nest. Crow’s Nest is nestled on top of a hill overlooking Harpswell Sound, with spectacular views from the large porch of sunset and water. Orr’s Island is a wonderful place to paint because of its varied scenery of quiet coves, rugged coastline, and quintessential New England buildings.

The workshop includes watercolor instruction, lodging at Crows Nest*, breakfast, buffet style picnic lunches, welcome dinner, and Wednesday dinner. Two dinners will be on your own at one of the nearby restaurants, (unless you would like an a la carte home-cooked dinner option). The workshop will begin each day at 9am and conclude at 4pm. Each morning begins with a demonstration that addresses the specifics of the landscape at hand with regards to color, composition, and paint handling. The afternoons will be spent painting on your own with plenty of individual guidance from Marjorie and will conclude with a critique as needed. At the conclusion of each day, you’ll have free time and the opportunity to relax on the porch, and if the spirit moves you, paint the sunset!

The workshop fee is $450. Note: Lodging and included meals is a separate fee. Details are below.

About the Lodging and Meals

Lodging is based on double occupancy, and includes 4 breakfasts, 4 buffet style picnic lunches, a welcome dinner on Sunday night and dinner on Wednesday night. Guests could either eat out during the other nights or enjoy a la carte home-cooked vegan dinner options for an additional $20 per dinner for those who do not want to eat out, but it must be paid for at the time of registration.

Total cost: $410 (in addition to a workshop fee of $450).

If you do not wish to share a room, the total fee for lodging and meals is $640.

If you wish to stay additional nights, (6/29 to 7/8, and/or 7/13 to 7/16), the fee is $60/night for lodging with a la carte vegan meal options of $25 for dinner, $15 for lunch, and $15 for breakfast.
